I have owned shih tzu for over 30 years and have found them to be sweet natured and lovable. They do require more grooming than many breeds; most keep them clipped to a managable level of one to two inches. Keeping a Shih Tzu in full coat is difficult, as their funloving nature is likely to take them to the nearest mud puddle! This is a breed that can sometimes take a little more time to housebreak, as they are easily distracted from the task and sometimes 'forgets' when they get involved in things that interests them. They love toys and can usually be taught fetching games. Very kid friendly as a rule; able to play and enjoy a little rough and tumble without getting their feelings hurt; they are a great family dog.
